For study, most Jewish texts have been translated into English, and also many of the commentaries.īut the real answer is "yes" - if you want to become Jewish, you have to have some facility with Hebrew, the more the better not because it's strictly required (it isn't see above) but because you can't access the essential "Jewish experience" without it. A few short prayers, like the Shema, can be learned by heart.
